Letters From the Labyrinth 79
Hi gang. Welcome back to Letters From the Labyrinth -- a weekly newsletter for fans of my work. Previous issues are archived here.
Hello from Chattanooga, Tennessee, where it is 6am on a Sunday morning and I am not hungover. Used to be, at conventions such as this one, I would have just been getting back to my hotel room about now, after a long night of drinking, but these days I am old.
Indeed, after signing for ten hours yesterday (plus doing a solo panel, a panel with my buddy Dan Jolley, and another panel with director George Demick), I'd intended to just come back to the room and crash, but I ended up going out after all. Had drinks with my buddy Eddie Coulter, comics journalist Gavin Dillinger, Serial Box's Shana DuBois, horror novelist John Quick, and his wife Angie. We met up at 7pm and I was back in my room by 10:30pm.
The secret to life is balance.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by this weekend, and brought books from home to be signed. Always a pleasure.
Heading out today, and stopping in West Virginia to visit my 93-year old grandma. Then heading back to Pennsylvania on Monday.
My next public appearance is The Horror Show with Brian Keene's second annual 24-hour live streaming telethon, which will raise money for Scares That Care, a 501C(3) charity that helps children with cancer, women with breast cancer, and burn victims. STC is a completely volunteer organization. None of our staff and no one on the Board of Directors draws a salary. The money goes directly to the families in need.
The 2018 Horror Show with Brian Keene Telethon will begin at noon (EST) on May 11 and end at noon (EST) on May 12. Just like last year, it will be livestreamed across the world via YouTube. It will be free to listen to, so no matter where you live, you can participate. Our goal for this year $20,000 is 24 hours.
You can also attend the telethon, and be part of our live studio audience. The telethon will be held at Courtyard Marriott 2799 Concord Road, York PA 17402. You will need a ticket to be part of the live studio audience. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here. Seating is limited to 80 people. (All proceeds raised from ticket sales will go directly to the $20,000 goal). Your ticket guarantees you 24-hour admission to the telethon — come and go (and sleep) as you please. Please note that by purchasing a ticket and attending, you are granting The Horror Show with Brian Keene permission to broadcast your voice and/or likeness live on the air.
If you can’t attend but would still like to help, you can also purchase an official limited edition t-shirt commemorating the 2nd annual telethon. Shirts are available in a wide variety of styles and colors. Once again, 100% of the proceeds from t-shirt sales will go toward the $20,000 goal. Click here to purchase one in your size.
Speaking of The Horror Show, we posted part two of our coverage on Dark Regions Press. If you were a fan or friend of Tom Piccirilli, or if you just believe that authors with brain cancer who are in a wheelchair and undergoing chemo and radiation should be treated like human beings, then it will enrage you. I still get enraged just thinking about it. Listen for free here.
"Intersectionality" is a new short story I posted on Patreon this weekend. Check it out here.
The hardcovers of CLICKERS FOREVER and HOLE IN THE WORLD have shipped to all customers.
The hardcover of MONSTERS/ANIMALS (the prequel to J.F. Gonzalez's SURVIVOR) is now in production.
There are five (5) copies of HOLE IN THE WORLD left in stock. Click here to get one.
That's all for this week. I still have to shower, get dressed, find coffee, go sign books for a few more hours, pack up the car, and drive six hours to Grandma's house.
See you back here next Sunday.
