Good morning. I'm Brian Keene and this is the 118th issue of Letters From the Labyrinth -- a weekly newsletter for fans of my work. Previous issues are archived here.
Hopefully, you noticed that there was no newsletter last week. That's because I was in West Virginia, visiting my 93-year old grandmother. In 2018, we have mapped the human genome and put robots on Mars and created black holes in laboratories, but we still haven't figured out how to bring reliable internet service to West Virginia. Thus, no newsletter.
As most readers know -- the character of Teddy Garnett from EARTHWORM GODS, THE SEVEN, and now SUBMERGED -- was based on my grandfather. But the house he lived in and the town it was near were also based on real life locations. So while I was in West Virginia, I took a ton of photographs of those places that inspired direct scenes from the novel. I posted them on Patreon, along with written text from me. It's a travelogue of sorts. You can access it here, under the $5 a month pledge.
My 10-year old and I celebrated our Christmas this weekend, as he will be at his mother's on Christmas Day. We had a delightful time. His favorite presents were issue #1 of the Spongebob Squarepants comic book, a 1000 fps pellet gun, the Steven universe video game for Xbox, Nick Redfern's Bigfoot Encyclopedia, Iron Maiden and Fortnite action figures, and an arcade-style video game cabinet containing Rampage, Gauntlet, Joust, and Defender.
That latter required some assembly. Quite a lot of assembly, in fact. This Twitter thread documents the experience. My pain brings joy to others.
Happy holidays.

Next week is the 200th episode of The Horror Show with Brian Keene. For the last four years, I've spent those 200 shows interviewing other people. For our 200th, I'll be the one getting interviewed.
I am grateful to everyone who has made the show the success that it is: our listeners, Armand and Shelly at the Project Entertainment Network, and of course co-hosts Dave, Mary, Dungeonmaster 77.1, Matt, Phoebe, Lombardo, and Coop.
Heading into our fifth year, we're working on a lot of things behind the scenes that I think listeners will enjoy. Stay tuned.

Over at AstraDaemon's Lair, reviewer Ursula K. Raphael is doing the 12 DAYS OF KEENE, and looking back at 12 of my books. I've been enjoying her takes on them. You can read along here.
That's it for this week. As always:
PATREON - Where I post new short stories, writing advice essays, two serialized ongoing novels, and behind-the-scenes stuff.
TWITTER - The only social media outlet I still use regularly.
YOUTUBE - Where I'm posting free stuff each and every day.
BRIAN KEENE RADIO - Broadcasting for free 24/7
I'll see you back here next week!
