[Letters From the Labyrinth] Brian Keene Newsletter

Hi gang. I'm Brian Keene, and this is the 126th issue of Letters From the Labyrinth -- a weekly newsletter for fans of my work. Previous issues are archived here.
A correction from last Sunday's newsletter: Sonny Mallhi is writing the URBAN GOTHIC screenplay, *not* Sonny Mahal. That's what happens when you try writing a draft of the newsletter on your iPhone, rather than your laptop. Apologies for the confusion.
The big news this week was Marvel Entertainment’s new partnership with Serial Box. As reported by Deadline and The Verge and elsewhere (I’m not going to link to all of them) Serial Box, the premium digital-book platform (for whom I was showrunner and writer for SILVERWOOD: THE DOORand writer for EXQUISITE CORPSE), is partnering with Marvel Entertainment to create new original stories for Black Panther, Thor, Black Widow, and Jessica Jones that will be produced by TV-style writers’ rooms, serialized in both written and audio form, and released weekly as episodes that fit the average American commute.
I am one of the writers on THOR, along with Yoon Ha Lee, Jay Edidin, and Aaron Stewart, who horror fans will know as the co-writer of Mandy. The series is based on an idea by Aaron. Alex de Campi is the showrunner.
The serial will start this summer.
That’s pretty much all I can say, but I did give Bleeding Cool reporter Jude Terror and exclusive quote, which you can read by clicking here.
HOLE IN THE WORLD -- the third book in the LOST LEVEL series and a prequel at that -- is finally shipping, and available now in both paperback and ebook. Click here to order.

Now, they are nineteen strangers trapped in a dangerous dimension filled with prehistoric monsters, futuristic technology, and otherworldly mysteries. They'll have to learn to work together if they want to survive and return home ... but will any of them be left alive by then?

Here's a video I took of the Lettered Edition of DOCTOR WHO: NOTHING O'CLOCK signed by myself, Neil Gaiman, and Joe Hill. It has a bonus cameo by my cat, Mad Max.
A few weeks ago, we helped one of my favorite independent genre bookstores -- Dark Delicacies.
But now another of my favorite independent bookstores -- Rickert and Beagle -- also need help.
As they write on their website:
It’s been a really rough year and a half. Construction that will (eventually) lead to a new, cheaper, gorgeous, space has dragged on. Our landlord has worked with us on the rent because of the long delay, but it’s been expensive and difficult for us to operate around the construction.
The economy isn’t great, you may have heard, and sales are down significantly.
Chris (our intrepid owner) has always staffed the store as a volunteer, and also has a full time job elsewhere to pay her own bills, and at this point our volunteer pool has had a lot of things come up that limit their time with us.
So it’s time to make some tough choices.
We have a few options. But we want to hear from you. Here’s what you can do:
Come shop in the bookstore! The hours are kinda wacky, we know, but the weekends, especially Sundays (open 11-5!) are pretty solid.
Volunteer! We need people to shelve books, to just sit at the desk and let people browse, and even some handyperson/ lifting/ carrying/ cleaning type stuff.
Spread the word. Let your friends and neighbors know that one of Pittsburgh’s oldest bookstores needs a boost from the community right now. And with our options to shop online, they don’t even have to be Pittsburgh-based to help!
Stay weird, we love you,

It's also important to note that you don't have to be in Pittsburgh to shop from Rickert & Beagle. You can shop from them via anywhere in the world, via their Amazon storefront.

Don't forget this tonight. I'll be hanging out in the chat. Come say hi.

This is the debut novel by a young author named Wile E. Young. It's a fantastic book, reminiscent of Weston Ochse and Richard Laymon. It's available now on Kindle (for free) and in paperback. Click here to learn more about it or purchase.
