[Letters From the Labyrinth] Official Brian Keene Newsletter 10/10/16
Welcome to the tenth issue of Letters From the Labyrinth. This one is a day late, and as a result, the format will be a bit different from what you're used to. I apologize in advance. It was a busy weekend.
Last Thursday, Mary and I drove from Pennsylvania to Louisville, Kentucky to attend the Imaginarium Convention. The trip was supposed to take nine hours. It took thirteen. I got no writing done.
On Friday, we visited the childhood home of my all-time favorite writer, Hunter S. Thompson. I'll write more about that for END OF THE ROAD, my weekly column for Cemetery Dance. Here's a picture Mary took of me in front of the house.

The rest of Friday was spent signing books for people and participating in panels and catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Was great to see Maurice Broaddus, Jerry Gordon, Tim Waggoneer, Michael Knost, Brian Hatcher, Elizabeth Donald, Jason Sizemore, and others. Here's a picture of Maurice and I, taken on Saturday morning. I call this "A Safe Space and a Trigger Warning".

On Saturday night I attended the 2016 Imadjinn Awards banquet. Hosted by the Imaginarium convention, the Imadjinn Awards are awarded to small press and independently published authors across multiple genres, including romance, horror, fantasy, and science fiction.
KING OF THE BASTARDS, the novel I co-wrote with Steven L. Shrewsbury, was nominated in the Best Fantasy Novel category. I wasn't aware it had been nominated because I've been traveling all year and am behind on everything, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear it announced as the winner, and was very honored to accept it on behalf of Steven and myself. Here's what the award looks like.

KING OF THE BASTARDS is available in paperback and ebook. The sequel, THRONE OF THE BASTARDS, is finished and has been turned in to the publishers. It will be released as a limited edition hardcover this year from Thunderstorm Books, and in paperback and ebook from Apex Book Company early next year.
Okay, next Sunday we'll get this thing back to normal and looking the same. Until then, be good to one another. Thanks for reading.
