[Letters From the Labyrinth] Official Brian Keene Newsletter 5/28/17
Hi. My name is Brian Keene and this is the 43rd issue of Letters From the Labyrinth, a weekly newsletter for fans of my work. If you're a new subscriber, previous issues are archived here.
When I was a kid, in the late-Seventies/early-Eighties, I used to ride my bike all over York County. I rode my bike from Spring Grove to East York. I rode my bike from Spring Grove to Seven Valleys and Jefferson. I rode my bike from Spring Grove to Hanover and Dover. But you know what I didn't do?
I didn't ride my bike down the middle of the goddamn road when cars were coming. Instead, I got over on the shoulder or sidewalk.
And I didn't shake my fist or make obscene finger gestures to motorists who had the audacity to *gasp* pass me on my bike.
And I didn't wear those stupid fucking tight shorts and those stupid fucking Spandex shirts that people only seem to wear when they are riding bikes.
And I sure as shit didn't ride my bike once I turned 16 and got a fucking driver's license and used a goddamned car to get from Point A to Point B.
I get that adults like to exercise, but enough with the goddamn cycling culture already. Share the road does not mean you own the road. It means you fucking share it. Start getting over to the shoulder and stop giving me the finger or I'm going to start bumping you and your silly goddamn Spandex shorts and your stupid fucking bike that cost as much as my Jeep into the fucking embankment.
Learn to jog or buy a fucking stationary bike.
Thank you.
Well, now I've gone and pissed off the cycling enthusiasts in my audience, all of whom I'm sure are good people, and not the type of douche-canoe cyclist described above, who thinks their bike can beat a dump truck in a game of chicken.
What's that?
No. No, you don't get this type of content in Joe Hill or Christopher Golden's newsletters, do you?
This morning, I posted a brand new short story called "A Delayed Exit" on Patreon. As you might guess from the title, yes, this story stars The Exit, my popular serial killer protagonist from THE COMPLEX and a number of short stories.
If you're not sure how Patreon works, allow me to explain. You pay a monthly fee, and then you get access to content. In the case of my particular Patreon, it breaks down like this:
For $1 a month, you get a new chapter each month of THE SEVEN: THE LABYRINTH, Book 1, an ongoing serial that unveils the secrets of my mythos and features characters from various books teaming up in one giant cage match to decide the fate of the universe, the multiverse, and reality itself. Also, some chapters have their own monthly appendix (posted separately) which will link readers back to previous books or stories for reference. The entire novel is archived on the website, so you can start reading it at any time.
For $5 a month, you get access to the serial as well as behind-the-scenes looks at other works in progress -- excerpts, outlines, and the like. At least one of these is posted per month, and all of them are archived on the website.
For $10 a month, you get all of the above, PLUS A BRAND NEW ORIGINAL SHORT STORY each and every month! All of the previous short stories are archived on the website, including this brand new Exit story -- "A Delayed Exit".
Click here and you can start reading them today!

Borderlands Press, in collaboration with Gauntlet Press, offer you the collectible book of the year! Neil Gaiman, Joe Hill, Brian Keene, and Doctor Who!
NOTHING O’CLOCK by Neil Gaiman : A Doctor Who Novella
When the BBC enlisted a variety of bestselling British authors to a collection celebrating “the twelve doctors” of their Doctor Who series, they included Neil Gaiman in the mix. Gaiman contributed a novella entitled “Nothing O’Clock” which depicts Doctor Who with the task of saving all of time and space from slipping off into abject nothingness. Fans of both the Doctor Who series and the whimsical genius of Neil Gaiman will be charmed by his unique contribution to the canon.
Joe Hill has written an Afterword for the Deluxe and Lettered Editions.
Brian Keene has written an Appreciation to the Lettered Edition
There will be three states of the book:
A Limited Numbered Edition signed by Neil Gaiman — $50
A Deluxe Limited Edition signed by Neil Gaiman and Joe Hill — $200
A Lettered Edition signed by Neil Gaiman, Joe Hill, & Brian Keene — $350

That's it for this week! A few reminders:
GHOST TOWN WRITER'S RETREAT: One of my few public appearances for this year.
PATREON - Where I post new short stories, a serialized ongoing novel, and behind-the-scenes stuff.
TWITTER - The only social media outlet I still use regularly.
Take care.
