[Letters From the Labyrinth] Official Brian Keene Newsletter 113
I'm Brian Keene and this is the 113th issue of Letters From the Labyrinth -- a weekly newsletter for fans of my work. Previous issues are archived here.
Yesterday's signing at F.Y.E. for I'M DREAMING OF A WHITE DOOMSDAY was a big success. The store ordered just under 200 DVD/Blu-Ray combos and we sold almost all of them.
Here is a little one minute video I shot before we began.
We were supposed to start at noon but there was a good sized crowd when we arrived at 11am, so we started an hour early. Thanks to everyone who came out!

This was the first time I've let my 10-year old son accompany me to a public event like this. (We go to Baltimore Comic Con together each year, but I'm incognito there). I let him go to this one because he wanted to support Mike Lombardo (the director) and because he wanted to hang out with Reeve Blazi (our 10-year old child star). After watching us sign things for the first hour, he commented to Mary that it looked like work. He got to sign something too -- a copy of SCHOOL'S OUT (which we co-wrote together). This was the first copy he's signed for a member of the public (he's signed one for his teacher). He was super tickled to do that.
After two hours of signing, both boys needed a break, so we let them go into the store's back room office for lunch. While they were in there, they recorded an interview for the podcast. It was organic and unscripted, and there's an honesty and curiosity when a 10-year old interviews another 10-year old that you can't duplicate. We'll play it on next Thursday's show.
Yesterday was also the anniversary of J.F. Gonzalez's death. While that was certainly on me and Mike's minds, I think the signing helped us stay busy and not dwell on it.
As I said on Twitter, J.F. might have been one of your favorite authors. He was one of my best friends. Even though he's been gone a few years now, I still talk to him damn near every day. Read a book or story by him, in his honor this week, and you'll hear him talk to you, as well.
Here is a complete list of everything by him that is currently available. There are more to come.
Miss you, brother. You'd have been damned proud of Mike yesterday. I know I was.
