Another excellent newsletter. Thanks for the shoutout too! And Ketchum in a Speedo is something I didn’t realize I needed until you gave it to me.

As someone who enjoys history in general, I loved the quick recap of the sub genres. Super cool post!

An excellent newsletter this week. I wish I'd gotten to meet Dallas. I would also like to play golf with John Coyne.

Really enjoyed this rundown of genre labels. Some of my favorites were mentioned and there are several I've never encountered; so many greats, some that crossed over too soon.

A spot-on assessment on Splatterpunk v. Extreme. I strive to be Motorhead.

Sir.

All due respect, and without wanting to start an argument or piss you off at all, but... Meek?

You used that word frequently in this post to describe quiet or mainstream horror, and it just feels unfair. When done well, quiet and mainstream has a much deeper impact on me than the more transgressive stuff.

Not my word choice. You’ll notice it’s in quotations the first time. That’s because it was cited from the original Splatterpunk articles in Horror Show and Twilight Zone from back in the day.

I feel so much better that it didn’t come from you. I’m chuckling at how relieved I am. Thanks.

Obviously you’re busy AF (to put it lightly), but I would love to read a book on the history of horror literature. I know we got a brief history with Paperbacks from Hell by Grady Hendrix. But I definitely think there’s an audience out there for a more extensive history.

JF Gonzalez’s SHADOWS IN THE ATTIC (out in paperback) is nothing but horror history! 😎❤️

Thank you for the detailed explanation. How would you categorize some of these new books/shorts that are closer to Anal Cunt than any of the bands you listed?

Good question. While very different from the stuff Chandler Morrison or Kristopher Triana are writing, I'd say they are equally transgressive in their own right. But I'm not sure a 55-year old dude whose metal and punk bonafides aged-out and stopped with YOB and Green Day should be ascribing any sort of label to them. That seems better suited to the younger folks reading them and the younger folks writing them. ;-)

As a Motorhead fan, this pleases me. 😀

Thank you for the pictures of Dallas. I miss him. I wish I had taken a photo of his face when I gave him the VHS I made of Black Jack Ketchum. He looked like a five-year-old all lit up at Christmas.
