You may remember a few weeks ago when everyone in the horror fiction industry was talking about authors in their Sixties, Seventies, and Eighties feeling forgotten.
1. I am a believer in extraterrestrial life as well. Always have been. I was happy about the “big news” as well. Haven’t commented much on it because I’m not on “Shitter” anymore....or whatever man-child wants to call it. Regardless, HUGE news and wondering where we go next with that info. Also, I had no idea that you’ve had a sighting. Is this something that you’ve spoken about before? I’d love to hear the story someday.
2. What on Earth is Bluesky? I genuinely haven’t heard about it, but am interested.
3. I love that cover of Ghoul too!
4. As I’ve said a bajillion times in the past, I really look forward to these newsletters. It’s a great way for nerds like me to feel connected to one of the best horror writers to have lived. Keep on truckin’.
1. Yep! Mary and I had one a few years ago, and I had some other experiences when younger. I wrote a slim book about them all called THE TRIANGLE OF BELIEF: https://amzn.to/3skAmea
2. Bluesky is 90% like Twitter, except it is in Beta and currently invite only. You can join the waitlist via the app, however.
Damn those are some excellent guests of honor, already. And not even half way? So glad I got my table. I’m already experiencing anxiety of getting one for AC in 2025 😂
I am glad those authorities testified, mystified that it is not the biggest story of the century (it is, but is not being treated as such). Best moment of coverage I saw came during the early morning New York area NBC news. After the brief coverage, Darlene Rodriguez turned to her co-anchor and asked, “Shouldn’t we be running around going crazy?” It descended into jokes from there but that moment of truth stuck with me. We have so many questions that should getting asked an answered. Instead, we get endless stories on DT, Oppenheimer, Barbie, and extreme weather (but don’t dare scream climate change). I love that the horror community tends to seem so much saner than the real world.
BlueSky codes remain elusive. Being on the waiting list feels like being on Ticketmaster hold for Zep tickets without a reunion announcement.
An additional thank you is required. I wrote a Bigfoot story based on one of the open calls in Job in Hell and while that submission didn’t work out, almost immediately after another opportunity presented itself, and that story is now going to be published in an anthology late this year. I wouldn’t have written that tale if I wasn’t subscribed to Jobs in Hell, so thank you.
As always your news letter is what I look forward to on Sunday Mornings. I heard nothing about the extraterrestrial news reports. i truely belive. I will have to look into this. If others watch us it must be a great sitcom. thanks again Bruce
I have always been a believer myself too. Had an experience late 80s never forgot that and have looked to the sky at night ever since. I really enjoy your letters every Sunday and hope to be able to get on to Bluesky when it is available to continue communications with you. Thanks again for the letter and have a great week !
I couldn't agree with you more on the UAP news. I have also waited for this to be confirmed as long as I can remember. I can't stop thinking (and talking) about how no one gives a crap!
As I just finished listening to "Mother of All Lies" by the Pretty Maids, I must say that the government has lost their best audience: the citizens. Sadly, my first thought, having decades of interest in UFOs, was this was merely misinformation to take our minds off our f----d up world, the New World Disorder. Your newsletter is great, and I hope to hear your Livestream today. David Schow is one of my favorite horror writers.
Brian, In response to this: But if you’re wondering what I thought about last week’s congressional subcommittee hearing on UFOs, well… I feel an immense sense of vindication and smugness.
I agree with you completely. I have always known that we are not alone, never hesitated to express it to anyone and feel the same as you. They are out there watching and waiting. I don't know what they are waiting for but I sincerely hope I live long enough to find out. If we ever meet I will tell you what happened to my parents 3 days after I was born that caused them to flee their very profitable mom & pop store for a cave in KY and caused numerous visits from Men in Black as I grew. I think you'd find it very interesting and believable. Be well and please give my best to Mary.
I would give my left (insert body part) for a Bluesky invite at this point. I've been waiting since March. Threads is barely tolerable, and I just want to be rid of Twitter. Ugh.
