It's good to acknowledge writers...but I'm not sure that Spector is someone to praise. He is not the nicest of guys and has even been critical and I feel unfair in his comments about other writers. Just my 2 cents.
The award isn't a popularity contest. It's an acknowledgement of an individual's impact on the field. Neither Spector or Garton think much of me, and lord knows I've certainly had issues with them both, but regardless, their impact on the field is undeniable and should be recognized.
