There's always that subtlety when you're first talking to one of them, where they drop little hints, feeling you out. As soon as they think you might be on the level, they get off and running. It's like how racists used to gauge if you were on the team, before it was fine to just openly be racist.

Imagine being so afraid of so many people and things so much of the time. Black, Mexican, gay, trans, liberals, jews, marxists, fema camps, hobbit homes, gay frogs... It must be exhausting.

There's barely any time left in the day to worry about Secret Asparagus Directive 27. Oh, you haven't heard? Let me tell you all about it...

Oh yeah, I’ve got Things Left Behind, don’t go sending us it again!. It'll cost you a dang packet to send that big chonky Rising book when it’s done in a few years!.

I've always wondered what you would do with a huge 300,000 word colossus, I do love my gargantuan Brandon Sanderson or Peter F Hamilton epic yarns, but it’s rare that you see something that huge that isn’t Sci-Fi or Robert Jordan Terry Goodkind style Fantasy.

One of my post office stories. So while waiting in line (I was the next customer) this occurred: The person ahead of me was discussing duck hunting and getting his hunting license. This went on with the post office worker for several minutes and it seemed the worker was annoyed with this story. My turn arrived and I went to the counter and told the clerk that “I thought it was wabbit season”. He thought that was hilarious. The guy has tears in his eyes he was laughing so hard. Personally, I did not think it was that funny but I was happy I helped make him laugh that morning.

Thank you, Brian, for sharing this story. It seems like it would have been relegated to the bizarro genre just a few years ago...

I didn't know if I should laugh or cry after reading about the dead chick-you tube brigade at the Post Office. I shudder to think how scary crazy people can be. I can also relate to you on judging ages. I still think of myself as that cool biker chick (no pun intended) with the lace up boots and studded gloves. At least till I limp down the front steps to my 4 door Cadenza sedan in my Clark flats.

Have a productive day at home or Vortex!

Alice Cooper's song Dead Flies ("It's all lies, we're dead flies") came to mind as I read this. I'd be terrified of the future if I was any younger.

It's astonishing the folks you meet in line at the post office. We live outside a small town in northern Idaho, and our carriers are constantly leaving cards in our rural mailbox saying "We're hiring", so there must be something going on at our small PO. Perhaps I've know a few crazy postal workers in the past that could explain "going postal". My favorite Bukowski novel Is Post Office.

Hey Brian, I feel exactly the same thing about Survivor 46. No one over 40. If you want diversity, let me know if you want me to send you episodes of Survivor Australia. The latest Season is half over and I have the episodes. By far my favorite of the Survivor shows. The host is great, and we have contestants that are from 18 to 60+. Plus the accents are killer. Cheers.

Loved the story about the woman at the post office. Now, all I can think of is Herbert West surrounded by dead chicks!

"It's really a documentary," Beardy said, leaning forward on the counter with both elbows, my package now forgotten. //

😂 I'm a fan of the film too, and so is my son.

And somewhere there's a post office just like this one... made me smile.

Also, congrats on the publishing deal, Brian!
